Glazing Taped and Carved Pottery with Liz Cohen - May 29th at 8pm EST
Liz Cohen is a ceramic artist based out of Denver, CO. Her work primarily consists of small batch, colorful, retro inspired pottery. She let's the surface decoration be the primary element that draws you into each piece by taking smooth, simple forms and decorating them with colorful glazes in different patterns. Her designs are planned out, tight, and controlled, and she gets a sense of satisfaction from seeing different colors play off each other. The visual and tactile contrast of glossy, bright glazes adjacent matte, earthy bare clay is also an important element in her work.
In this workshop you will learn some of Liz's glazing techniques on pots that have taped and carved designs. She'll show you how she plans out and tapes or carves a design, applies various brushing and dipping glazes, and uses wax and latex resist to make certain kinds of designs possible.
