Figure Sculpture Details with Christina Orthwein - Workshop Recording
This is a previously recorded workshop. You will have access to the recording of this workshop for 90 days. Once your purchase, I will send you an email with the access info!
In this figure sculpting workshop we’ll be looking at techniques to tackle various details and textures. Once the basic form of the figure is built up, Christina will demonstrate adding fabric with intentional weight and flow, and how to maintain the form of the body below the clothing. Hands and feet can be difficult. We will go over ways to work on them in phases to make it manageable. We’ll spend time reviewing how to sculpt the different facial features and some tips on how to get correct proportions. Finally, Christina will show how to build up volumes in hair and the steps to refine it to appear lightweight and textured.
Christina Orthwein is a ceramic artist who works out of a home studio in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania. After decades creating slab-built and wheel-thrown functional ware, ceramic jewelry and low relief tile, the pandemic brought about a shift in Christina’s work to focus on figural sculpture. With a BFA in ceramics from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, Christina has been a Lecturer of Studio Art at Bryn Athyn College for 23 years.
