Workshop Description:

Christina will demonstrate the steps to design, transfer and carve a custom press mold and show the building of a complex curved slab vessel from that mold. This presentation will cover a variety of options for each step to suit individual levels of experience and tool availability. 

Included in the workshop will be design and transfer, molds types and carving, pressing, cutting, beveling, assembling, reinforcing, cleaning, finishing and glazing.

Artist Bio:

Christina Orthwein is from Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania. With a BFA in ceramics from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, Christina has been a Lecturer of Studio Art at Bryn Athyn College for 25 years. Christina works in figural sculpture, slab-built and wheel-thrown functional ware, ceramic jewelry and low relief tile.
